HORSES ON THE HILL: CALL TO ACTION FOR HORSES

12th, July 2009

The Animal Welfare Institute and The Humane Society of the United States are sponsoring an all day effort to lobby Congress in support of the Conyers-Burton Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act, H.R. 503 in the House of Representatives, and S.B. 727 in the U.S. Senate.

If you can attend, schedule a meeting on July 14th between 11 am and 4 pm. with your U.S. representative and 2 U.S. senators. You can ask to meet with each of them personally, but meeting with the animal staffer for each is very beneficial. Go here to find your representative and here to find your senators. For more information on events scheduled that day including a briefing by Sen. Mary Landrieu, the bill's Senate sponsor, visit http://www.horsesonthehill.org/

If you cannot attend, call the Capitol switchboard on July 14 at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your two US Senators and US Representative's offices. It will be significant even if you leave a short message asking them to support HR 503/SB 727, the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act. You can also fax or email your representative and senators. Go here to find your representative and here to find your senators.

Chris Heyde, Animal Welfare Institute, stated, "Horse slaughter advocates have been ratcheting up their misinformation campaign so we must make sure our elected officials hear the facts from the majority of Americans who support an end to horse slaughter."
