ANIMAL CRUELTY ALERT

Independence Ohio passes Cruel Bowhunting ordinance against Humane Protection...

Citizens across the country have banned together in support of the Human Voters of Independence, Ohio. Humanitarians are urged to speak out on behalf of putting an end to animal cruelty by contacting Mayor Gregory Kurtz. The mayor and council members James Riley, James Crooks, George Klepacz,Tom Narduzzi, Anthony Togliatti and Jim Piteo  are urged to repeal the bowhunting ordinance based on creulty and ineffectiveness.

Dr. Allen Rutberg of Tufts University, an expert on wildlife management as well as wildlife contraception, states: "The most visible weakness in the assertion that hunting is necessary to control deer populations is that it has largely failed to do so over the last two decades."

In a report on bow hunting in Rock Cut State Park in Illinois, Department of Conservation biologist, Tom Beisel, states: "this report recognizes that bow hunting has never been an effective tool for deer control."

In Texas, which has more deer than any other state, Park and Wildlife biologist Horace Gore, comments: "You cannot call bow hunting a population control measure, it is a recreational pursuit." In fact, he adds: "We do not advocate bow hunting when the objective is controlling population."

The Eagen City Council decided not to allow bow hunting. The mayor of Eagan, Tom Egan, was quoted as saying:
"I have always supported bow hunting but I no longer feel the rationale that it’s an efficient management tool, outweighs the safety and cruelty aspects. I think that if we set loose every bow hunter in Egan, we still wouldn’t reduce the deer population and the city would be less safe."
Bowhunters knowingly commit each living creature they hit to lingering agony, and this is true whether the wound is eventually fatal or not. These animals endure intense suffering before they collapse and die.

At the June 23rd Safety Committee meeting Chief Nicastro stated,”The only accident we had was a guy east of Route 21 in the woods. He shot a deer that ran out on to Route 21 and into the side of a car.”
